Grand Plaza Shopping Centre Skylight Window Film

The problem

Excessive heat through overhead glass.

The overhead skylights were allowing excessive heat into the centre, affecting comfort below and increasing solar load through the roof glazing.

Because the glass was located on rooftop skylight structures, this was not a standard internal commercial tinting job. The work had to be completed externally, on the roof, where wind, rain, surface conditions and access all affected the installation schedule.

The existing film also had to be removed before the new film could be applied, adding a significant preparation stage to the project.

Project challenges

More than a standard commercial window film installation.

• Scale: 1,038 panels and approximately 1,050 sqm of glass

• Weather: installation windows depended on dry conditions
• Wind: exposed rooftop film handling required careful timing and control

Large external film installations require consistent conditions. Wind, surface temperature, rain, moisture and access all influence how efficiently and safely the work can be completed.

The result

Approx. 1,050 sqm of overhead glazing treated.

Ultra Tint completed the removal and replacement of film across the overhead skylight glass, treating approximately 1,050 square metres of glazing.

The upgraded skylight film system was installed to help reduce heat transfer through the centre's roof glazing and improve solar control across the affected areas.

This project demonstrates Ultra Tint's capability with large-scale commercial film work, particularly where access, safety, weather and technical installation conditions need to be managed across a high-volume glass area.
