Car Window Tinting Prices – What’s Included?

When the term “full tint” is used,  it refers to the tinting of the side windows and rearscreen of the vehicle. This does not include the front windscreen,  since according to QLD Transport regulations, it is not permitted to be done. Additional glass such as sunroofs,  moonroofs,  and panoramic glass roofs are not included in standard prices since not every car has them. These are quoted based on your particular car, so don’t forget to mention them when you are asking for car window tinting prices.  It is also worth noting that not all sunroofs can be tinted due to the type of glass in them.  If there are signs that adding film could increase the risk of glass breakage,  we would always advise of this,  and suggest that it not be done. Similarly, things like glare strips across the top of your windshield will also attract a small additional cost due to the extra time required to produce and install them.

How Does Window Film Make Your Car Cooler?

Window tinting is created when solar film is bonded onto a piece of window glass. Tinting film is usually made from clear polyester film with a very thin and even layer of tinting agents such as carbon and/or metals deposited onto the film. A common misconception is that window tinting is dark, and night-time driving is impossible when a car is tinted. The truth is that there are many window tinting films in various shades to suit your preferences. Also, unlike sunglasses that do impair your ability to drive at night, tinting film is designed to reduce glare and not impede night-time driving. State window tint laws also protect consumers against illegal tint that may put them in harm’s way during night-time driving. Another misconception is that window tinting is bonded onto the outer surface of auto glass. Window films are applied on the inner surface which also protects the film itself from flying debris outside the car. Tinting film doesn’t just block visible light. It also blocks harmful cancer-causing ultra-violet (UV-A and UV-B) rays as well as infra-red (IR) rays that cause heat to build up in your car; however, how effective a film is in blocking these rays depends on the type of film, the manufacturer, and the quality of installation…. That’s where Ultra Tint can help!

State Window Tinting Regulations for QLD:

Window Tinting lawsIn Australia, each state has regulations covering the type of window film that is allowed to be placed on registered passenger vehicles. Basically, the regulations do not allow very dark or highly reflective films to be placed on cars for safety reasons. In Queensland, the maximum allowable reflectivity is not more than 10%, and the darkness for window film on cars can be not more than 35%-VLT. More detailed information about QLD regulations can be found here.

What Does VLT Mean:

VLT stands for Visible Light Transmittance. This measurement refers to the amount of natural light that is able to pass through the window once a particular window tinting film has been applied to the glass of your car. VLT can be measured roadside by using a VLT card, but this is an approximate measure at best. A true and correct reading requires the use of an electronic VLT meter. If you are unsure about whether the current film on your car complies with the guidelines, or have been issued an infringement notice as a result of a roadside inspection and would like an accurate reading, Ultra Tint has a number of correctly calibrated VLT meters.

In-Glass Radio Antennas:

Car window tinting gold coastSome cars do not have standard telescopic rod type aerials, but have the aerial built into the glass. (usually the rear window) If “normal” metallised automotive window films are applied the AM radio band reception strength will be greatly reduced, (FM to a lesser extent) and this may effect the number and stations that can be received in your area. For in glass aerials we recommend that a non–metallised film be applied to ensure good radio reception. A particularly good film to consider in this instance would be the Carbon Black range of window films from 3M.
